Utah's Walnut Problem
Wondering what happened to all the walnut trees in your neighborhood?
First found in Utah in the mid 90s, the walnut twig beetle carries with it a deadly fungus that causes cancerous dark cankers to form under the bark. This condition has been named "Thousand Cankers Disease" (TCD) because of the enormous number of minuscule cankers that ultimately bring about the death of these giants.
Can I treat it?
Trees infected with TCD typically do not recover, and die completely 2 to 3 years after becoming infected. Unfortunately, there are currently no known means of reliably controlling this disease (Cranshaw & Tisserat, Colorado State University).Speak With A Professional
